Tommie was preceded in death by his loving wife Gladys Baker parents, Ollie and Gladys Baker and Dean Baker son, Tommie Baker Jr. Tommie was surrounded by his loving family as he transitioned into eternity on Thursday April 13, 2023. He was a favorite uncle or father figure to many. He loved his family and going to family reunions. Tommie loved to go fishing, listening to music, food, and playing dominoes. He also did maintenance at the Kansas City, Missouri Call Paper under Lucile Buford. Tommie worked for the Kansas City Kansas Public Housing Authority as a maintenance worker since he was 18 years old and retired in 2014. Their beautiful marriage lasted 50 years and they were inseparable. Tommie married Gladys Sue Hall in October 1972 and to this union Tommie Lee Baker Jr. Tommie attended high school in Kansas City, Missouri. He and his siblings were raised by his oldest sister Leona Smith. Tommie grew up in Kansas City, Missouri after his mother’s passing. was born on Februin Texarkana, TX to the union of Ollie Baker and Gladys. great-grandchildren, Mi’cah Union, Miric Spencer, Antwuan Taylor Jr and Mi’Lee Tommie Union great-nephew, Kenneth Wayne Fennix (“grandson”) her loving Baker family and a host of great-nephews & nieces, cousins and friends. ![]() nieces, Shonetta Hall, Kendra Hall and Cynara Russell nephew Walter Hall Jr. Gladys leaves to sustain and cherish her memory, her granddaughters, Tamisha Baker and Tiaria Union grandson, Traevon Baker brother, Walter Hall Sr. Gladys received her loving husband Tommie in heaven five days after her passing. parents, Norman and Lucille Hall sisters, Sheila Graves, and Diane Patrick niece, Trashonda Hall cousins, Timothy Scott, Isaac Scott, Mary Scott, Houvener Anderson, Trina Lewis, and Brenetta & Bernadette Lewis. Gladys was preceded in death by her only son Tommie Lee Baker Jr. Gladys transitioned from this earthly realm, on the Saturday morning of April 8, 2023, in Kansas City, Kansas. Her family will treasure the memories of her beautiful heart and how she spoke her mind. She loved her dog Biscuit, who will be affectionately missed. She enjoyed her connections on Facebook and her remarks and social presence will be missed by many friends and family. She loved her family and hosted or attended several family picnics and holiday functions. Gladys had a passion for capturing the moment at every function, whether it was on a Polaroid or camcorder in which she had several pictures and videos of family. She enjoyed going fishing with her family. She enjoyed traveling with her husband to his hometowns. Gladys was very fashionable and had beautiful long hair. She was a Community Missionary Baptist Church member for several years and later joined Forest Grove Baptist Church. Gladys grew up in Antioch Baptist Church. Gladys joined her husband Tommie Lee Baker in holy matrimony in October 1972 and to this union, Tommie Lee Baker Jr. Gladys later retired as a nurse at KU Medical Center to raise her niece. She was employed at Providence Medical Center for several years as a surgical nurse. Gladys went to Paseo High School where she was a majorette. Photos, memories, and condolences may be shared through Sue Baker was born on April 23, 1955, in Kansas City, Kansas through the union of Norman Eugene and Lucille Louise (Anderson) Hall. ![]() In lieu of other tributes, donations in Gladys' name may be made to a charity of one's choice. Due to the Covid 19 restrictions a private Funeral Service will be held. ![]() Gladys will be lovingly remembered for her kindness, generosity and dedication and great love for her family. Her greatest love was gardening and sharing her produce with others. She and Lorne enjoyed travelling and relaxing at their lake cottage. After completing high school and business college, she worked many years for the Provincial Government and for an oil company. Gladys was raised on the family farm in the Hilliard district. She is survived by her sister, Joanne Kolomas brother, Edward Kolomas (Kay) brother-in-law, Nestor Cebuliak sister-in-law, Agnes Kolmas and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Gladys was predeceased by her husband, Lorne Baker parents, Kataryn and Harry Kolomas sister, Sophie (Sue) Cebuliak and her brother, Ernest Kolmas. It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Gladys Baker on September 7, 2020.
